There are not too many weddings that I’ll end up having a whisky with the couple at the end of the night. Chilling out and having a party… I do that at most wedding, but to have a whisky and just lie back and relax, I only do so at the special ones. These are weddings where every element comes together. I don’t read the stars, but I’m sure somewhere out in the mysteries of space the stars are aligned. Of course, it has to be a wedding where I’m very confidant of what I’ve achieved as well to kick back in this way.
This is the wedding of Suan Jin and Rachel, we went to Beijing earlier this year to have their pre-wedding photos taken. Now it’s back to Singapore for their wedding day. They are 2 seemingly different people, as Suan Jin said himself, they even have different accents. Suan Jin is in banking and finance while Rachel works with NGO. (teaching forest tribes how to find alternative source of income, working with governments on policies of birth controls…… you know, that kind of stuff)
Rachel’s wacky aunty, and her wackier friend are memories I take with me from this wedding. There are not too many weddings that the official photographer gets told “excuse me, you are blocking me !” :p
So at the end of the shoot, with just 7 hours in between before I need to catch my early flight to Japan, I went over to Alley Bar to have my whisky with Suan Jin and Rachel. Like I said…… only for the special ones

Both Gerald and Monique are from the Philippines and it’s a great joy to see them tying the knot together in Singapore. I’m overwhelmed by the warmth hospitality and friendliness shown by themselves and their families during their wedding ceremony. Best of all, there were great music and everyone was having fun on the dance floor, including myself.

Congratulations, Michael and Dawn!
When I first met the couple during that time they came down to view our portfolio, Michael left me an impression of a very serious guy while Dawn did most of the conversation with me. But that changes quickly when Michael had to go through the gate crashing to get his lovely bride. Sportingly, he performed all the arduous tasks with flying colors. He had to write a love poem for Dawn within 3 minutes, then recite it out loud using 5 different accents (American, British, Australian, Singaporean and Indian). And he had to sing the National Anthem (in Malay obviously) too. The sisters were a difficult bunch because I really could not see the link of singing National Anthem and the wedding. Nevertheless, everyone of us broke out into laughter!
The wet weather dampened the ground at the lawn in Raffles Hotel, but it never dampened the joyous spirits of the couples’ families, relatives and friends, and especially Michael and Dawn. Enough said, let the photos do the talking.
Oh yeah, did i mention that this looks like an international wedding? Their friends from all over the world came over to witness this happy occasion.

It was a nail biting moment for me as I went through the photos in the WPJA website after I received email announcing that the contest results are out. It was like quite some time ago since I took part in this quarterly contest and you can imagine how nervous I was when I was looking one photo after another.
After looking through about 100 photos, I saw my photo in the 3rd place under the Action category! I was grinning away while I continued to scan through the rest of the photos. I saw another win in the 20th place under the First Dance category.
I’m elated to share my award winning pics here

THE WEDDING OF THE YEAR !!
The biggest wedding so far for me this year. This young couple came to see me early this year, being friends of Lawrence, naturally they wanted him to be their photographer but unfortunately Lawrence was already book so (fortunately for me) I got to be their photographer.
Wonderful couple, great setting and good looking friends !! All the elements you need for a great wedding shoot. Not to mention free flow of whiskey to keep the photographer around long after midnight.
What I liked about this wedding is that even with the 2 wedding planners, 2 photographers, 2 videographers, Instantprint, Daniel Ong as the DJ etc etc… With all these productions going on, it is still just about them, the two of them. In the midst of all the bangs and the whistles, it is just about Kenny and Tania, the intimate moments of two person starting their journey together.

“Cos I wanna grow old with you”, he said. And Terence’s eyes welled up with tears.
It was a very emotional wedding day for both Terence and Teresa. The emotions did not just cook up within the couple, their friends and Terence’s sister were all touched by their love. All of them teared that very day. As for me, not only that I was able to capture this lovely couple, but to witness this touching, emotive and joyful occasion too.

It is great to be back for another wedding with the Tan family.
It was just a few years ago when I shot Selena’s wedding and now it is her little sister, Jessica’s turn.
Familiar faces, familiar locations makes for a great shoot. The wedding ceremony at White Rabbit was especially beautiful. From the tiled floor to the stained glass windows to the motif of characters from Alice in Wonderland.
I love how the setting, location and atmosphere fit in so well with their personalities. Everything is bright, cheery and ….. Happy. I think that being most important, being happy with yourself as well as for the people around you.
It is a gift and a wonderful blessing when your joy is shared by the people around you and even more so when their joy is derived from you.
