When I started doing photography full time, I worked from home, then around 3 years into it pretty much on a wimp I decided to get a studio. With just 1 month’s rental money in my bank as back up, I set up shop along Selegie Road.
We had grand ideas during that time. Let’s have a studio cum art gallery we would say, a cool place for friends to hang out. Let’s host exhibitions (which we did 2 with the Goethe Institute), let it be a meeting point for artists and photographers (which we did by the setting up the Radius art group).
5 years later, the lofty art photography dreams has taken a back seat, although I still manages to keep up with at least 1 exhibition a year, my baby now is 36frames. Having started my business by doing meeting at Starbucks, McDonalds and Burger Kings (I had my first signup at BurgerKing Raffles City), today I’m very proud of having my own comfy meeting area, with leather seats, huge LCD TV and of course an imitation arc lamp. The team has grown too, Lawrence is now very well known for his photography in his own right, and Eileen is sought after for our signature style of videography.
So what’s next ? I feel the wind of change blowing. I think a change of environment might be in store. Being at the edge of Little India has its charm, but it might be time to mix it up. To challenge ourselves again lest we get too set in our ways, lest we get too comfy.
We are pretty close to getting the new place, I’ve had many sleepless night thinking about it. I guess that must be a sign that I’m much older now. When I got my current office I decided on it within days and it was the only place I checked out. The devil may care spirit was much alive then, I was young and irrational.
So Let’s COOK IT UP ! Let’s STIR UP A NEW POT !
stay tuned..
